What is buttocks augmentation?
Butt augmentation is the enhancement of buttocks, either through the use of an implant or the use of autologous fat transfer (AFT). This procedure is available for both men and women.
What kind of butt augmentation does Roura Dermsurgery offer, and how is it done?
At Roura Dermsurgery, we advocate the use of AFT for butt augmentation.
First, a standard liposuction procedure is performed. The harvested fat is washed and processed in a way that promotes and enhances the survival of the fat tissues, preparing them for reinjection into your body. The harvested fat is then injected intramuscularly into the gluteus muscles.
We also offer standard implants should an AFT not be viable, though.
How is an implant used for butt augmentation?
An incision is placed on either side of the vertical butt crease. The area is dissected and the implant is inserted between the gluteus muscles. The skin is then stitched together.
What is the difference between AFT and the use of an implant?
AFT is the use of your own fat to enhance your butt. The advantageous aspect of this is that it is effectively two procedures in one: a liposuction first on a section of your body where you would like fat reduced, and then afterwards the use of that same fat to enhance your butt. There is no chance of rejection or a negative reaction, because it is effectively your own flesh and not foreign matter.
While there is still that tendency for the relocated fat to be reabsorbed, a well-executed procedure will result in just the right amount of enhancement on your butt contours.
An implant would be a better choice if there is not a significant amount of fat that can be harvested from the patient. With an implant, the results are permanent and there is no chance of fat absorption. There will be scars from the procedure, however.
What can I expect after the surgery?
After an AFT, you will experience some swelling in the area. This is perfectly normal. Not all of the injected fat will survive, and some of it will be reabsorbed by the body. There will still be a significant amount left, however, and this remainder is what then forms the basis for your enhanced buttock contours. The typical fat survival percentage is 50-70%. The final post-operational form may be expected to settle in after 3-4 months.
